I was photographing rockhopper penguins when I noticed this lone chick sitting in the open. It wasn't long before a striated caracara took advantage of opporunity and attacked. The chick clung to life for over half an hour even after the caracara had taken out it's eyes and it couldn't see where it was walking as it seeked shelter. I had observed over several days that groups of Gentoo Penguins would come ashore in the late afternoon, just before sunset. These groups would swim around offshore awaiting the right moment when they could safely land. I wanted to capture the chaos and turmoil as these groups of penguins made their way back onto land. This young Magellanic Penguin was sitting out in the middle of a wide, flat sandy beach. It was looking out to sea, waiting for it's parents to return with some food, There was a strong wind blowing the very fine sand. Being down flat on the ground to get the angle I wanted, it was inevitable that sand would get into my equipment and require hours of cleaning that night. These young desert foxes were on the lookout for any potential food. There colouring blends in perfectly with all of the rock formations in the White Desert. Fennec fox (Vulpes zerda). White Desert, Egypt.
