Striated Caracara and Rockhopper Penguin Chick
I was photographing rockhopper penguins when I noticed this lone chick sitting in the open. It wasn't long before a striated caracara took advantage of opporunity and attacked. The chick clung to life for over half an hour even after the caracara had taken out it's eyes and it couldn't see where it was walking as it seeked shelter. It is ia reminder of how cruel nature can be and the will to survive. Sauders Island, Falkland Islands. Striated Caracara (Phalcoboenus australis) and Rockhopper Penguin (Eudyptes chrysocome).
